Braveheart

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of posts. I've been busy this month, but now i'll start to spend more time with this blog. This movie reminds me of a great moment in my life, when I was young and used to watch it with my parents. It's one of the most epic movies I can remember, and this speech is really inspiring.

"You have come to fight as free men, and free men you are. What will you do with that freedom? Will you fight? Aye, fight and you may die, run and you'll live. At least a while. And dying in your beds many years from now, would you be willing to trade all the days from this day to that for one chance, just one chance to come back here and tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take our freedom!"
Mel Gibson - Braveheart (1995)

Say hello to my lil' friend

"What you lookin' at? You all a bunch of fuckin' assholes. You know why? You don't have the guts to be what you wanna be? You need people like me. You need people like me so you can point your fuckin' fingers and say, "That's the bad guy." So... what that make you? Good? You're not good. You just know how to hide, how to lie. Me, I don't have that problem. Me, I always tell the truth. Even when I lie. So say good night to the bad guy! Come on. The last time you gonna see a bad guy like this again, let me tell you. Come on. Make way for the bad guy. There's a bad guy comin' through! Better get outta his way!"
Tony Montana - Scarface

I guess everyone agree: this movie is epic. Tony Montana is one of the best and most memorable roles that Al Pacino did. I couldn't agree more with this speech. That's what people do...they pretend to be nice and perfect but under their masks they aren't more than a bunch of assholes. They steal, they lie, they are our politicians, our governments, our media. Sad but true fact.

For those about to rock...

...I salute you!. What's up everyone. Today is the International Day of Rock and, of course, I will pay a tribute to it! Here are some memorable quotes from the greatest motherfuckers that have ever lived.

The Italian Stallion

I bought the Rocky collection a few days ago and I was watching it again. There are many great quotes I could take from it, but this is one of the best. It's from the last movie, Rocky Balboa (2006).

"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain’t all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain’t how hard you hit; it’s about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That’s how winning is done. Now, if you know what you’re worth, then go out and get what you’re worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain’t where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that
and that ain’t you. You’re better than that!"

Well, this is a damn of a life lesson, isn't it? Life is harsh and cruel sometimes, and if we let it go over us, we will never be more than shit. Plus, we can't blame anyone for our mistakes and our hard times. We just have to face it and keep moving forward, like he says. I know it's a lot easier to give up and let people tell us we aren't good, but we all know how pathetic is that. So let's not be cowards, we are better than that!.

The great dictator

Today i bring to you one of the greatest moments of movies's history. Despite being the biggest post so far it worth the reading.

"I'm sorry but I don't want to be an Emperor, that's not my business. I don't want to rule or conquer anyone. I should like to help everyone if possible, Jew, gentile, black man, white. We all want to help one another, human beings are like that. We all want to live by each other's happiness, not by each other's misery. We don't want to hate and despise one another. In this world there is room for everyone and the earth is rich and can provide for everyone.
The way of life can be free and beautiful. But we have lost the way.
Greed has poisoned men's souls, has barricaded the world with hate;
has goose-stepped us into misery and bloodshed.
We have developed speed but we have shut ourselves in:
machinery that gives abundance has left us in want.
Our knowledge has made us cynical,
our cleverness hard and unkind.
We think too much and feel too little:
More than machinery we need humanity;
More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness.
Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost.
The aeroplane and the radio have brought us closer together. The very nature of these inventions cries out for the goodness in men, cries out for universal brotherhood for the unity of us all. Even now my voice is reaching millions throughout the world, millions of despairing men, women and little children, victims of a system that makes men torture and imprison innocent people. To those who can hear me I say "Do not despair".
The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed, the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress: the hate of men will pass and dictators die and the power they took from the people, will return to the people and so long as men die [now] liberty will never perish. . .
Soldiers: don't give yourselves to brutes, men who despise you and enslave you, who regiment your lives, tell you what to do, what to think and what to feel, who drill you, diet you, treat you as cattle, as cannon fodder.
Don't give yourselves to these unnatural men, machine men, with machine minds and machine hearts. You are not machines. You are not cattle. You are men. You have the love of humanity in your hearts. You don't hate, only the unloved hate. Only the unloved and the unnatural. Soldiers: don't fight for slavery, fight for liberty.
In the seventeenth chapter of Saint Luke it is written:
"The kingdom of God is within man"
Not one man, nor a group of men, but in all men; in you, the people.
You the people have the power, the power to create machines, the power to create happiness. You the people have the power to make life free and beautiful, to make this life a wonderful adventure. Then in the name of democracy let's use that power, let us all unite. Let us fight for a new world, a decent world that will give men a chance to work, that will give you the future and old age and security. By the promise of these things, brutes have risen to power, but they lie. They do not fulfil their promise, they never will. Dictators free themselves but they enslave the people. Now let us fight to fulfil that promise. Let us fight to free the world, to do away with national barriers, do away with greed, with hate and intolerance. Let us fight for a world of reason, a world where science and progress will lead to all men's happiness.
Soldiers! In the name of democracy, let us all unite!
. . .
Look up! Look up! The clouds are lifting, the sun is breaking through. We are coming out of the darkness into the light. We are coming into a new world. A kind new world where men will rise above their hate and brutality.
The soul of man has been given wings, and at last he is beginning to fly. He is flying into the rainbow, into the light of hope, into the future, that glorious future that belongs to you, to me and to all of us. Look up. Look up."
Charlie Chaplin - The Great Dictator (1940).

When I first watched this movie i wasn't expecting such an inspiring and emotional scene. Who would? It is a comedy movie! But when we talk about Charlie Chaplin, we gotta to expect something more. This was his first talking picture, and it came in the right time! This was his brilliant way to fight against nazism. Well, there isn't much to say, the speech is amazing and meaningful by itself. If you didn't watch the movie yet,  do it RIGHT NOW! You won't regret.

Here's the scene:
Ps. If you want to watch it EPICALLY wait til 00:26, pause it, and put this one to play together in the background: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z0kGAz6HYM8

We shall never surrender!

"We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France,
we shall fight on the seas and oceans,
we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be,
we shall fight on the beaches,
we shall fight on the landing grounds,
we shall fight in the fields and in the streets,
we shall fight in the hills;
we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God’s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old.”

Winston Churchill

This is one of the most known speeches in the WWII. We can say this was one of the defining speeches  during World War II. We can see the repetition flowing through it, and this is proposital. It's called Anaphora - repetition of words and phrases. Churchill used a lot of classical rethorical techniques to make his war speeches memorable and ispiring. He was a very smart man, and every word he said should have a purpose.
I can't think in any better and more inspiring way to warn and prepare your people to a coming invasion attempt. I'd feel proud and comfortable being led by a man like that in war times.

Cause I'm as free as a bird now

"If I leave here tomorrow
Would you still remember me?
For I must be travelling on, now,
'Cause there's too many places I've got to see.
But, if I stayed here with you, girl,
Things just couldn't be the same.
'Cause I'm as free as a bird now,
And this bird you can not change.
Lord knows, I can't change."

Free Bird - Lynyrd Skynyrd

Today I bring to you the first quote from a music! I mean...why not? There are so many amazing lyrics we could think about.
This one, for example, is so great. Some people can't form bonds. They cannot live in the same place for a long time. Some people want to see the world, and you will never change them. I know sometimes it hurts if you get close to someone like this, but you gotta understand. You'll have to let go.
I'm a little like that. I don't grow roots anywhere, and Lord knows I can't change...

Here's the song:

Do not talk about Fight Club

"Man, I see in fight club the strongest and smartest men who've ever lived. I see all this potential, and I see squandering. God damn it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaves with white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off. "
Tyler Durden - Fight Club

It was about time!
The movie is from 1999 and it is still applicable to our reality. Most of us are living the way media told us to do. We born, go to school, go to college, find a job in some company, sitting in a chair and typing on a computer, get old, and die. What if we do like Edward Norton's character and disconnect from our lifes for a while? Do something we really would enjoy and would make us feel alive. I know this is pretty much what I've been saying in the other posts, but this is a message that everyone should think about.

Misfits - Nathan Speech

"We're young. We're supposed to drink too much. We're supposed to have bad attitudes and shag each other's brains out. We are designed to party. This is it. Yeah, so a few of us will overdose or go mental. But Charles Darwin said you can't make an omelette without breaking a few eggs. And that's what it's all about breaking eggs! And by eggs, I do mean, getting twatted on a cocktail of Class As. If you could just see yourselves! It breaks my heart. You're wearing cardigans! We had it all. We fucked up bigger and better than any generation that came before us. We were so beautiful! We're screw-ups. I'm a screw-up and I plan to be a screw-up until my late 20s, maybe even my early 30s. And I will shag my own mother before I let her... or anyone else take that away from me! "
Nathan - Misfits

I miss Misfitis so much :(.
The first 2 season were fucken awesome, and i strongly recommend to everyone.
About the quote...that's pretty much everything i believe. We have to do whatever we want to, and enjoy as much as possible. Thats what life is for.

Here is the scene:

Time to some Kick-Ass

"Even with my metal plates and my fucked up nerve endings, I gotta tell you, that hurt! But not half as much as the idea of leaving everything behind. Katie, my dad, Todd and Marty... and all the things I'd never do. Like learn to drive or see what me and Katie's kids would look like or find out what happened on "Lost". And if you're reassuring yourself that I'm going to make it through this since I'm talking to you now, quit being such a smart-ass! Hell dude, you never seen "Sin City"? "Sunset Boulevard"? "American Beauty"? "
Dave Lizewski - Kick-Ass

What a great comic/movie huh?
Even when we are fucked up, lying on shit, if we had a really good reason to get there, it'll be worth. And despite everything, will feel great.

We are such stuff

"Our revels now are ended. These our actors,
As I foretold you, were all spirits, and
Are melted into air, into thin air:
And like the baseless fabric of this vision,
The cloud-capp'd tow'rs, the gorgeous palaces,
The solemn temples, the great globe itself,
Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve,
And, like this insubstantial pageant faded,
Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff
As dreams are made on; and our little life
Is rounded with a sleep."

The Tempest - Shakespeare

If we look deeper, the message he wants to send on this quote is pretty much the same as the one in the "To think" post. We are nothing. Everything we have, everything material will dissolve along the time. The only thing remaining will be the acts we've done on our lifetimes. So try to do something memorable, something "people will sing about".
Now go outside and seize the day!

Here's a good music where this phrase is mentioned

To think

"We have come from God, and inevitably the myths woven by us, though they contain error, will also reflect a splintered fragment of the true light, the eternal truth that is with God. Indeed only by myth-making, only by becoming 'sub-creator' and inventing stories, can Man aspire to the state of perfection that he knew before the Fall. Our myths may be misguided, but they steer however shakily towards the true harbour, while materialistic 'progress' leads only to a yawning abyss and the Iron Crown of the power of evil."
- J.R.R. Tolkien

What to say about this bright and magnificent man. Every phrase he wrote looks like it was God himself. If we stop to think about life and it's essence, instead of what we gonna buy, what we gonna wear, maybe we can reach a higher level.

Heard a joke once

"Heard a joke once: Man goes to doctor. Says he's depressed. Says life seems harsh and cruel. Says he feels all alone in a threatening world where what lies ahead is vague and uncertain. Doctor says "Treatment is simple. Great clown Pagliacci is in town tonight. Go and see him. That should pick you up." Man bursts into tears. Says "But, doctor...I am Pagliacci." Good joke. Everybody laugh. Roll on snare drum. Curtains. Fade to black."

Rorschach -  Watchmen
